8.4 million people, put at risk for radioactive disaster from a meltdown at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station, now rejoice as Southern California Edison announces its closure.

Activists Rejoice as San Clemente Nuke Plant to Close

One Picture is worth 8.4 million words: the number of Southern California residents put in jeopardy from a mishap at SONGS.

Edison’s long leaking and creaking San Onofre Nuke Plant will not become another Fukushima or Chernobyl. The tireless activists, led by San Clemente Green, Residents Organized for a Safe Environment (ROSE), Alliance for Nuclear Responsibility, Friends of the Earth, San Onofre Safety, Coalition Against Nukes, have plenty reason to celebrate.

“Now the real work begins to get a seat at the table to start the discussions of how to decommission San Onofre in the best way. ROSE has no intention of allowing that site to become a nuclear waste dump for 300 years.  The federal government has to make some major decisions, and we all know how hard it is to make any decision. But it has to be done. ROSE is dedicated to helping this process to move forward for the best results for the economic future of all Californians and the well-being of our children.”
