Leaking, Switched-Off, San Onofre Nuke Plant, Still Scary

San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station aka S.O.N.G.S., sits on the southern border of San Clemente California. Dead center between LA & San Diego: a vulnerable populous of over 8-million people. S.O.N.G.S. has been switched off since Jan 2012. It leaks. It leaks a lot. It leaks radioactivity. It’s now mid Sept. 2012, with no timeline for switching S.O.N.G.S. back on.

So, what’s so scary – it’s off? Glory Be To God that leaky, radiating beast is dead. Or is it? America’s nuclear cabal never wants any of its nukers, no matter how flawed, how crazy dangerous to life and limb, to be mothballed. No matter the plants age. No matter the shaky ground it sits atop. No matter the tsunami threat crashing against its inadequate seawall. No matter the population threatened with radioactive devastation when she blows. And boy do they blow. And when they blow, what they blow, into the atmosphere, into oceans, rivers and lakes, into your baby’s milk, or onto your dinner plate, be it fish, chicken, or beef, or your homegrown tomatoes is bad news, because radioactivity travels globally; it falls from above, and permeates ocean currents, flows down rivers, from raindrops falling on our heads. It’s all bad news.

But meltdown threats do not deter the USA’s nuclear cabal on their slippery-slide to one more Fukushima / Chernobyl society-ending conclusion somewhere. Hopefully not near you. 50-miles away from meltdown, is recommended. But, even when the unimaginable nuclear conflagration happens elsewhere, we all get parts of it. A little bit goes a long ways when nukes go haywire. Cancerous radioactive fallout is invisible to our human senses while we eat it, drink it, breath it.

Yet again, S.O.N.G.S. is off. Hopefully forever, as the scary nuclear powers- that-be work round the clock reconfiguring Rube Goldberg formulas to restart America’s scariest radioactive workplace. Mathematical equations weigh threats to society, versus bottom-line profits to Big Power. How much are you worth? How much are your children worth? How much is your home worth? Your Town? Your globe? All of us, lumped into one post-nuclear equation. Human numbers in a bean counter’s algorithm. How much of society can be lost, and still be profitable to Big Ed. That’s the question they ponder.
